Greetings good people. It looks like my last post didn’t go through. Well let me bring you up to date. Tomorrow I meet with Hichman who wants to produce Carla. He was on of the producers on a Spike Lee film. He has a lot more connections then I have. That’s a good thing. Michael Olmos has left for the UK with his film. It’ll be screening at sunDance there. I’m hoping to have a lot more good news after the first when all three of us can get together and set a plan in motion. Hang in there ya’ll. We’re going to get it done.

Well it’s been a couple of weeks since my last update. There is progress to report. There is a new player, Hicham Benkirane a young producer who has worked as a producer with Spike Lee and is willing to work with us to producer Carla. I was given some great notes which I think will make the script better.
Michael is leaving town next week to go to Sun Dance in the UK with his film. He’ll be back the end of the month and we will get into packaging and funding.
I should have more news in my next update. We’re going to get this done.

Firsthand Accounts of Military Sexual Assault

If you’re still not angered by the fact that women serving in our military are being sexually assaulted and raped by fellow soldiers, you definitely need to visit My Duty to Speak and read the firsthand accounts from women who have survived this atrocity.

Some excerpts from actual survivors:

“Against my will, I was forced to deal with rape, sexual harrassment, threats of harm, being drugged against my will.”

“I know many women that were raped. Probably more than half of the women in my class.”

“I didn’t report it. I knew better. I couldn’t tell my family because I knew it would devastate them.”

“I was rejected and dehumanized by everyone in my unit. I had a scarlet letter on my forehead.”

Take some time to educate yourself. And PLEASE open your hearts (and your wallets) to contribute to our film, “Carla.” The story of these women must be told and the truth exposed. There are just TWO DAYS LEFT to raise a lot of money. So please spread the word.

Kickstarter 101. All or nothing.

I’ve been getting questions about how Kickstarter works, so here’s the lowdown as a mini FAQ:

What is Kickstarter? It is a crowdsourcing site where people can pool their money together to back a project.
What happens when the deadline arrives? If we do not raise the $40,000 before time runs out (this Monday), we get NO money. That’s why it’s so important that you spread the word — it’s all or nothing!
Do I need to create an account to pledge? Yes, and you can log in using your Facebook account. It’s easy. However, if you’d rather not have another password to remember or account to link to, you can also contribute using PayPal which doesn’t require an account.

We have only THREE DAYS left to reach our goal so that “Carla” can become a reality. Please don’t wait another day. If you can contribute, please do. If you have any reservations or more questions about using Kickstarter, please contact me and we can talk.

For those of you who have already made a pledge, thank you. Please keep spreading the word — we are in the home stretch!

Fight for a cause. Fight for Carla.

Have you heard of Joseph Kony and the LRA? The KONY2012 campaign has exploded in the media this week — filmmaker Jason Russell’s mission to stop this man, Kony, from abducting Ugandan children and violating their civil rights.

Ugandan officials have criticized his efforts, saying Russell has complicated efforts already underway to eradicate Kony. The U.S. government has been working with Uganda for months to assist. Last October, 100 special operations troops were already sent to the country to search for Kony.

The important thing is that Russell managed to get millions around the world to become aware of the issue. Did you know about it before this week?

So the question I ask of you today is: Did you know that women in our U.S. military are being sexually assaulted by their fellow soldiers?

Here are some stats:

A rape or sexual assault is reported in the U.S. military every four hours. (http://mydutytospeak.com/)
The government estimates that 80% to 90% of incidents go unreported. (http://ti.me/9ozF97)
While the U.S. had troops in Iraq, it was more likely for a female soldier to be raped by a fellow soldier than be a victim of enemy fire. (http://huff.to/urDXG)

We send troops to fight for our rights all over the world, including to Uganda to search for Kony, yet we can’t protect our troops from themselves? Where’s the justice?

“Carla” is about bringing this difficult topic to light. Let’s not let more of our women serving for our country be victimized by our own.

Today is International Women’s Day

Today, March 8, is International Women’s Day. Countries around the world celebrate this day by honoring their women and showing appreciation for all they do.

How about honoring our U.S. military women who risk their lives to fight for our country? Make a pledge on our Kickstarter project for “Carla.” If you still aren’t sure what “Carla” is about, read more at Kickstarter.

Hi all, so today is Leap Day — a day that only comes around every four years. What better way to celebrate the day than by paying it forward?

As you know, I’m looking for some help to jump start my latest project, “Carla.” And as you may also know, I’m not known to enjoy going around asking for money. But we’re in the home stretch of our Kickstarter campaign and still have a ways to go, so this is where I’m going to ask you for some help.
